Marie Curie
Marie Curie was born in 1867. She had a very sad childhood. Both her parents were teachers. She was a very bright child. After she finished school she wanted to go study in a university. But there were no universities in Poland for women to study. So she found a university that women could enter in Sorbonne, France. Marie Curie reached France in 1891. After a while Marie Curie met Pierre Curie and they got married.
Marie Curie was fascinated by radiation. She and her husband discovered the elements polonium and radium in 1903. Marie Curie received a Nobel Prize in 1903 for physics and another Nobel Prize in chemistry in 1911. A year later Marie Curie gave birth to a baby whom she named Irene. She too received a Nobel Prize. In World War I more then a million people were saved because of Marie Curie.
