Apple's Privacy Update
Over the past week, Apple revealed plans to roll out iOS 14.5. This would be an ordinary announcement, if not for the major privacy and data handling changes the organization made. The new update will allow iPhone App users to decide whether or not they would like their data to be collected. This will massively impact companies such as Facebook, which receives a large portion of its revenue from targeted advertisements. 80% of users are expected to say no to the data collection. This move aligns with Apple's early values, stemming from the importance Steve Jobs placed on consumers' privacy, and the consumer is aware of the data collected. Facebook's messy track record does it no favors. It argued about the impact removing targeted ads will have on smaller businesses. Stating that sharing data is essential in a good user experience. This new update is an inevitable change, with the key takeaway being that advertisers will have to be ready to transition into a more privacy-centric society.
