Democracy

I was doing my homework when I came across a problem on elections. Then my dad told me a little about democracy.

Democracy comes from the Greek 'demo' meaning 'people' and 'kratos' meaning 'power'. A government has to follow a set of principles which is called a 'constitution'. A democracy is when people get to vote and pick their government. Democracy was first started in Greece in Athens.

The opposite of democracy is autocracy meaning 'self power'. Here, only one group or one person chooses the government.

I thought learning about democracy was great!
