Taxes

Today I am going to write about taxes. A tax is a payment to the government for what you own, what you buy, and what you earn. Governments use taxes for building roads, hospitals, schools, fire stations etc.

Did you know there is more than one type of tax? People pay property tax on their houses, income tax on their earnings, sales tax on their purchases. Companies pay business tax on profits.

Did you also know taxes were first collected by kings to pay for fighting wars?
